DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

EVERY SINCE MY FIRST RED DRESS PAINTING SOLD I'VE  FELT THE NEED  TO CREATE ANOTHER FUN ME IN MY RED DRESS ( HA HA!)  SO HERE IT IS!   THE SAME DAY I FINISHED IT OUR BETA SIGMA PHI  SORORITY PRESIDENT ASKED ME FOR AN IDEA FOR A FAST FILL IN PROGRAM SO I VOLUNTEERED.   THE SONG  "BE HAPPY DON'T WORRY" HAD BEEN RUNNING THRU MY MIND AS I PAINTED THIS, SO I GOT ON GOOGLE AND PRINTED OUT THE WORDS AND WE ALL TRIED SINGING IT AS A WAY TO START THE PROGRAM.    PARTLY HIDDEN  QUOTES IN THE PAINTING ARE: "YOUR AS YOUNG AS YOU FEEL", "YOUTH IS WASTED ON THE YOUNG", " PAINT THE TOWN RED, "PUT ON THOSE PARTY SHOES LET'S DANCE" AND  "DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY",

I ALSO BROUGHT MY 4 STORY QUILTS  AND MY COLLECTION OF FUN CAMPER BLOCKS TO SHARE.

WE HAVE STARTED HAVING LUNCH TIME MEETINGS OFTEN AT A LOCAL RESTAURANT. WE WERE MISSING 2 OF OUR MEMBERS TODAY.

"MOM'S ART CAR" WAS MY FIRST STORY QUILT MADE IN 2011. I HAVE WRITTEN THE STORY OF EACH QUILT ON THE BACK SO HERE IS THIS ONE.   ---    AFTER SEEING AN ART CAR PARADE IN EUREKA SPRINGS, ARKANSAS AND ANOTHER IN LAWRENCE, KANSAS IN STARTED THINK ABOUT WANTING ONE OF MY OWN!  I TRIED TO GET HUSBAND MAURICE TO GIVE ME HIS LITTLE RED METRO, HE CALLS HIS LITTLE RED ROLLS,  BUT NO LUCK!    THE MORE I VISUALIZED  "MY ART CAR" THE MORE EXCITED I GOT!   SO SINCE I COULDN'T GET THE REAL THING I DECIDED TO CREATE THIS STORY QUILT.    I PURCHASED AND  HAD BEEN READING MARY LOU WEIDMAN'S BOOK "OUT OF THE BOX STORY QUILTS", SO I HAD LOTS OF GOOD DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO GO ABOUT IT.  I MADE THE QUILT WITH "WONKY" SIDE QUILT BLOCKS  FIRST THEN  I DESIGNED MY CENTER THEME PANEL.     SHE SUGGESTED OVER EMPHASIZING DIFFERENT THINGS; THUS MY BIG LIPS AND EYES AND LEG HANGING OUT THE WINDOW!    I USED A LOT OF 3-DIM. ITEMS LIKE THE NOTEBOOK RINGS FOR EARRINGS., FOIL FROM PEANUT BUTTER JARS FOR HUB CAPS AND BUTTONS FOR CENTER OF WHEELS AND POLKA DOTS ON THE CAR.    I HAVE A FABRIC FLAG AND WOODEN CROSS ON THE CAR ALSO.  THE CEENTER PANEL WAS ALL HAND APPLIQUED.  HOPE YOU ENJOYED LOOKING AT IT. MARLYNNE J. SNARE        P.S. THIS QUILT WON A 3RD PLACE IN THE 3-DIM CATEGORY AT THE 2011 HARRISONVILLE FINE ART FALL SHOW.

"HOME"  WAS MY 2ND STORY QUILT MADE IN 2012.    121 W, 61ST TERR. IN KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI   WAS PART OF THE JOHN WORNALL FARM AND OUR CHILD REARING HOME. FROM1965-1976.        WHILE LOOKING TO BUY  WE WERE SHOWN THE HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET.    BUT THE SIGN HAD  JUST GONE UP THAT DAY ON OUR HOUSE WITH A DIFFERENT COMPANY AND I ONLY HAD EYES FOR IT WITH THE GLOWING CHANDELIER SHINING THRU THE  DINING ROOM WINDOWS!               PICTURED IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE IS OUR FAMILY. OUR 3 BOYS; PAUL, PHIL AND JOHN WITH THEIR HIPPY AFRO HAIR SYYLE OF THE 70'S, OUR PEKINESE DOG. "PANDA", MAURICE AND I AND OUR CAT "SNIGGERS"            JOHN OUR YOUNGEST SON  FOUND A CANNON BALL FROM THE CIVIL WAR IN THE NEXT DOOR NEIGHBORS YARD. IT IS DISPLAYED IN THE HISTORICAL WORNALL HOME MUSEUM.   THE TWIN GAS LIGHTS ON THE HOUSE WERE PURCHASED AS AN ANNIVERSARY GIFT. DURING THE RIOTS OF 1968 WHEN MARTIN LUTHER KING WAS SHOT WE TURNED THEM OFF TO AVOID VANDALISM.        I LOVED OUR HOME IN  THE BROOKSIDE/WORNALL RD. LOCATION  AND WAS SAD TO  LEAVE WHEN WE WE MOVED TO GARDEN CITY  TO THE RANCH HOUSE WE BUILT THERE. P.S. THIS QUILT WON 3RD PLACE IN THE 3-DIM CATEGORY IN THE HARRISONVILLE FINE ART FALL SHOW OF 2012.

"GOING GLAMPING"  IS MY 3RD STORY QUILT  MADE IN 2013---- "GLAMPING IS THE NEW WORD FOR GLAMOROUS CAMPING!  THERE ARE CLUBS OF LADIES (GIRLS) THAT GLAMORIZE THEIR CAMPERS, ALL SIZES AND STYES, INSIDE AND OUT, PACK FORMALS, COWBOY BOOTS AND HATS, AND ALL FUN THINGS AND TAKE OFF ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO MEET UP AT DESIGNATED LOCATIONS FOR A WEEK OR WEEKEND OF "GIRL FUN"!        I HAD ALREADY STARTED MAKING MY COLLECTION OF GLAMPING  CAMPER QUILT BLOCKS  SO WAS INSPIRED TO USE 4 OF THEM AS A  START FOR THIS YEARS QUILT.   THE CENTER PANEL FEATURES MY DREAM RED AND WHITE POLKA DOT CAMPER WITH YELLOW/GOLD AWNING AND SIDE CURTAINS. I HAVE A FANCY TABLE COLTH ON THE TABLE AND AND A POT OF FLOWERS. OF COURSE I'M DOLLED UP WITH MY RED BEADS AND SHOES !   THE BIG PENNANT SPELLS OUT "GLAMPING" AND THE LITTLE SIGN SAYS " MARLYNNE'S HIDEAWAY!"  FUN FUN FUN!  HOPE YOU LIKED IT!    P.S. THIS QUILT WON 1ST PLACE IN THE 3-DIM CATEGORY OF THE HARRISONVILLE FINE ARTS FALL SHOW IN 2013

"MOM'S COTTAGE'"  MY #4 STORY QUILT  ------I HAVE A PRECIOUS COTTAGE UP THE DRIVE FROM OUR HOUSE. IT WAS BUILT BY MY HUSBAND AS A ONE ROOM ROUGH FINISHED  CABIN IN 1970 FOR OUR FAMILY TO USE AS A GET AWAY FROM THE CITY.  BUT IN 1975 WE DECIDED TO BUILD OUR HOME DOWN HERE IN THE COUNTRY AND THE CABIN SOON BECAME A MILK BARN THEN A CHICKEN HOUSE, PLACE FOR  PIGS, SHEEP AND EVEN TURKEYS THRU THE YEARS!  AFTER OUR YOUNGEST SON BECAME DISABLED WE DECIDED TO TURN IT INTO A BACHELORS PAD FOR HIM.  YEARS LATER IT WAS VACANT AGAIN AND I LATCHED ONTO IT AS MINE!  I HAD IT TURN INTO A LITTLE 4 ROOM ENGLISH COTTAGE. I AS WELL AS MANY FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS HAVE ENJOYED STAYS IN THIS LITTLE GEM!      TO HONOR MY  COTTAGE, I DECIDED TO FEATURE IT IN THIS YEARS STORY QUILT! ---I HAVE PLACED ME IN THE COTTAGE GARDEN IN FRONT OF MY COTTAGE.  I USED SILK FLOWERS PAINTED TO MY COLOR CHOICE IN THE GARDEN, AND A BIG PINK BIRD IN THE TREES. I LIKE THE COLORS IN THIS QUILT ESPECIALLY THE  BRIGHT YELLOW DRESS AND LETTERING.  THE FLOWERS AROUND THE SIDES AS WELL AS THE CENTER PANEL ARE ALL HAND APPLIQUED    HOPE YOU ENJOYED THIS QUILT!     P.S. THIS QUILT WON AN HONORABLE MENTION IN THE 2014 HARRISONVILLE. FINE ART FALL SHOW- 3-DIM. CATEGORY.       THIS WAS A VERY LONG POST SORRY! Marlynne-- your red dress painting is fabulous!!!

Those art quilts are truly amazing, it's fascinating how you can use fabric and quilting to tell a story. These are such works of art. I cannot begin to imagine the time you have invested in these treasures:)

Just wow--
